What is an Allergy?
Allergies do seem to be increasing and are often the cause of irritating symptoms and distress. Sometimes the effects of an allergy are dramatic but in other cases, the body may be affected in subtler ways. The immune system starts to react to substances which would normally be harmless. The reaction may be strong and is the body’s attempt to rid itself of the irritant substance. Obvious examples are hay fever, allergy to pets and house dust mite.
Food allergies can cause problems when weaning babies and there are some people who have problems with their skin reacting to certain substances.
We are very fortunate to have a Paediatrician with a special interest in allergy working at Chase Lodge.
For adults we offer a wide range of blood tests which can help us identify and manage your allergies.
